Scotty the Snowman

When Scott and I arrived in Utah a week before Dude, it was SNOWING! And it snowed every day!! But I resisted and insisted on waiting to take Scott out until Dude arrived. I'd love to say that Scott loved the snow... but it just didnt seem to be the case. He was.... intrigued seems like a good word for it...
We just stayed in my parents yard, as we knew it wasnt gonna last long, and didnt want a grumpy baby anywhere farther than a few feet from warmth! Daddy pulled mommy and Scott around on the sled, which was not Scott's favorite thing, and he was constantly trying to turn around and climb up his mommy.
When we put Scott on his tummy in the snow, he seemed fascinated. He looked at it, and rubbed his mittened hand around. Bad idea of the day: took Scott's mitten off and made him touch the snow. That turned him quickly from fascinated to ticked, and the mitten was back on faster than you can say "bob's your uncle".

But, despite the lack of fun he had, and the short time we were out there... LOOK HOW CUTE!! I'd bundle that kid up and torture him anyday for cute pictures and memories like this! What a fun first snow day, and we hope they just get better as he gets older and more adventurous (heaven help me) :)

Its a Bird, Its a Plane... Its Scott

Scott just loves his Bubba... and if I were to guess why he loved him so much, this would have to be one of the reasons. Scott loves to fly!! If he weren't such a chunk, Id do this all the time, but Im pretty confident that I would drop him after one flight, and he cant have just one flight. As soon as the first is over, he kicks his legs in excitement and anticipation for the next. After a while, by the time Bubba is tired and ready for a nap, Scott will actually nose-dive towards the ground, knowing that its that HORTIZONTAL position that gets him where he wants to go!

Amadeus Scotzart

We just returned from being in Utah for Christmas. At Scott's CiCi and Bubba's house (those are the names for his Grandma and Grandpa Francis) there is a piano. Scott LOVES banging on things, and so I thought Id test him out on this. He is so cute. He pounds and pounds, lifting his hands up high before hitting the keys, and after what I can only assume is a "number" he stops, turns, and waits for applaude from his captive audience. And so I recorded it, for tangible proof when he's older that he DOES like the piano, and that he SHOULD take lessons. Here's the evidence!

9 months going on 4 years old

Our little guy had his 9 month well-baby appointment. He weighed in at 24 lbs 9 oz, was 30 inches long, and the Dr was (as always) so impressed with all of the things he is doing. He stands and walks along furniture (stood for himself for a total of 3 seconds the other day!!!), waves, does "touchdown", claps his hands, does "high five", eats finger foods (dr said he can start meat now, he LOVED it!!), and has 4 teeth. Here are a few pictures of his 9th month.
Getting ready for the day with daddy is Scott's favorite morning activity. He will just watch in amazement. Easy and cheap entertainment, i tell ya!
Scott and I had a "two top teeth" photo shoot. It took a lot of tries, and getting him to look at a ceiling fan and then take the picture before he looked down too fast. Needless to say, you CAN see them, athought they arent tho most flattering shots of the little guy. He is so fun and full of energy. We are so grateful to have such a happy spirit in our home!!

CHEEESE!!!

Smile and Wave

Every now and then, Scott would wave his arm at Dude when Dude was waving at him. So we decided to start TRYING to get him to wave, while saying "say hi" and "wave bye bye". So, as a result, Ive been practicing in front of a mirror with him a lot lately, and yesterday he got the hang of it. And as the day progressed, it turned from an arm wave, to a wrist flick wave, and now hes flicking his wrists all the time, whether you ask him to wave or not. Hes funny about learning something new, it becomes "his thing" for a while. He waved hello to CiCi on Skype, and to Jenna when we arrived at her house today. Still doesnt wave bye bye. Maybe thats cause he never wants to leave!

And now the whole world (or those of you in the world that check my blog) knows that I didnt make my bed this morning... fantastic!

All I Want for Christmas

I know i said that Scott asked for a puppy for Christmas, but I must have been wrong. After at least a month of totrue, pain and terribly SWOLLEN gums, Scott finally got his two front teeth!! He now has 4 teeth, top two and bottom two. So, never is it more appropriate for me to sing the song "All Scott wanted for Christmas was his two front teeth". I just dont know what we can get him now that will ever top how he feels now that those dang teeth are in. He's a whole new, wonderfully happy, TOOTHY kid!
Ive been trying and trying and trying to get a picture of these infamous top teeth, but Scott is playing hard to get. Just know they are there, and someday, when he finally shows those things, you'll know they didnt just appear overnight. Hes been working long and hard on them, and his pain is over... at least until the next set starts. Wonder how much time I have, I better enjoy it!!
This is Scott's Christmas outfit. It wasnt meant to be that way, but it fits now, and it looks Holiday-ey, so it is now officially THE OUTFIT. Isnt he a doll???

Jolly Ol St Nicholas

Scott went with his friends Anderson, Roman and Ryland to see the big guy today. The plan was not to get pictures, since Santa is an expensive man to see... but we found a sneaky way around it. Don't anyone go telling my secret, I dont want elves raiding my house at night for money, or to take me away to jail, or; worst of all, be put on the "naughty list"!!!
My friend Amy (Andersons mom) has an AWESOME camera, in fact, we're pretty sure it was the same camera that Santa's helper had attached to her camera stand! So, we just let Anderson sit on Santa's lap first, and then Amy stood by and shot pictures while the others were being taken, and we didnt have to pay ANYTHING... but I still got some awesome shots of Scott and Santa.
Scott wasnt afraid at all, and I actually had a hard time getting him to look at me, the camera lady, or ANYTHING but that beard and red suit! The man had a REAL live beard (of course, why would Santa wear a FAKE beard??? :) but that means I, and all the other moms I was with, was concerned for the safety of Santa's face. Babies who dont cry on Santa's lap are more likely to grab a handful of beard and TUG! But, Santa survived our curious bunch unscathed!

Scott asked Santa for a puppy... not gonna happen! ;) At least he didnt ask for a bbgun, he'd shoot his eye out!!

Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas....

Well, maybe its NOT beginning to look at lot like Christmas, but whatever! Christmas season is here, whether it looks like it or not!!
I put up our Christmas tree, and am still debating whether or not to put ornaments on it... maybe just high enough that dog and child cannot reach. But still, Ive been lighting it up anyways, getting at least the inside of my house feeling like Christmas!

Tuesday night we were able to go see the Christmas lights at the Mesa Temple! It was beautiful! Lights EVERYWHERE!!! Although, I do have to admit, its really strange for me to be seeing Christmas lights when Im perfectly comfortable in a light jacket... its just not right!!

Scott was fascinated by the lights, and during the concert they had that evening (a high school choir singing Christmas carols) Scott thought it was awesome when everyone clapped at the end of each number. He's not used to that, and it stopped whatever he was doing every time, so he could watch everyone clapping! Such a funny little guy!

The lights behind us are all crazy, but aside from the fact that my head and Dude's face are being attacked by lights, I liked this family picture! You can see in the back how they put lights on the palm trees... again, weird! :)

The group we went with!! Deni, Joel and Roman; Amy, Michael and Anderson. We had a great time showing them around the place, and getting into the Christmas spirit! Sure they got cornered by a missionary, but hey! Whats a good temple lights trip without a testimony of a young man firm in his faith?! We are looking forward to a month full of Christmas fun, and years and years of traditions to come!! Let the celebrations begin!!

I carved my first Turkey, made my first apple pie (with the help of my mother in law) and participated in 3 delicious Thanksgiving dinners! My life is so blessed, and I am so glad to have had that chance to remind myself of how blessed i am every day! Thanks Jenna! We had a fabulous Thanksgiving with family, and Scott was so happy to be surrounded by people to play with. He wasnt bored for one second, and once again, Im paying for it now that its just he and I back at home! Pictures to come!!

Welcome to the Jungle

Scott has recently taken to animal noises of all shapes and sizes. Besides the previously shown fishy, these are a few musical stylings of Scott as a few of our furry pals!

The first, is a monkey. Would have been useful if he had started this BEFORE Halloween, but Ill take what I can get. We were feeding him bits of banana as we ate our dinner, and each time his mouth was empty he started to make grunting noises that reminded us very much of the noise a monkey makes. We have determined that Scott has discovered the origin of the monkey's language. When Monkey has no bananas, he grunts: allow Scott to demonstrate!

The next animal in our "Scott Zoo" is a lion. Scott has been a little under the weather this past week or so, and has aquired somewhat of a frog in his throat (add that to the list of animals, I guess). Well, he learned that because of this scratchy voice, he can roar just like a lion! He does it ALL the time, and its very entertaining; especially in restaurants, meetings, and church. I'd really rather this be a monster, and have scary hands accompany it one day... but we'll go with the jungle theme and let it be a Lion for now. He is one of the King's in this jungle known as my home...

Tree Hugger

My wonderful mom bought me this awesome plant to go in the corner of my living room when she was visiting, and my cute son just loves it! It is the target of his mischief most of the time, and if I were to give credit to Scott's early crawling, this plant would be one of the responsible party's.
It is lucky for me that the leaves just pop right back on, because Scott's favorite thing to do with this plant is to pull everything he can off of it, and leave the pieces around the house as evidence of his trouble-making. The kid UNDERSTANDS no, and when he goes for the plant, I will say "no, scotty" and he'll turn, look at me with a HUGE grin, and turn back to his goal. The fact that Ive given up being consistent with pulling him away (since the leaves DO just pop back on) probably doesnt help him want to obey me any more. Oh well, he knows what the word means, I guess thats a start!

But seriously, you name me one person (besides Supernanny, that woman is inhuman!) who could punish a child with a face like this... betcha cant think of one!!

For Papi

Scott's hair is getting long enough that, in the bath when its soaking wet, it can hold a "do". When its dry, it stands straight up and theres nothing to be done about it. That's ok with me, cause i like the standing straight up! But since he was there, with the wet hair and we had a baby brush... what the heck! So, we did a mohawk, a spikey do like his daddy, everything combed forward and down (dumb and dumber style) and every way we could think of. This "do" is in honor of and for Papi. This may be the only part you ever see in this boy's hair, but here it is! A part, just for you!!

8 Months of Joy

Our little dude is now 8 months old, and it is still a joy to be his parents. That is something big to say today, since he got his first runny nose last night and we've been having an adventure of a time since then! You know how you saw those kids when you were a teenager with the snot all the way to their mouth and you swore your kid would never be so gross?? Well, sometimes its IMPOSSIBLE! This kid is a faucet!!!
Needless to say, despite the snoring, fussing, wheezing, and slime factor, he is still the cutest living thing I have ever seen, and I am so glad that he is in our family!
Scott is trying so hard to tell us things, with all of his yelling, grunting and babbling. He'll get a word out eventually, but for now, Ill take whatever language he'll give me. He understands words like Daddy, Cici, doggy, mommy, bath, bottle, night night, etc. I havent gotten him to successfully do a sign for any of these things, but he knows what it means when I say "all done" and wave my hand in the air! Sometimes hes not so happy about that one! This kid is a fish!! He LOVES his baths, and goes crazy with the splashing! He can get from his back to his bum on his own, but sometimes a kids just gotta splash, so he lies there (with his eyes squinted, hes learned that splashing can get into eyes) and soaks the entire room and everything in it! He is SO strong, i think hes stronger than I am sometimes (and especially if Im trying to take something away that he wants....) Scott has just started walking along couches and such once he is standing up against one. Hes not one to be stopped from getting where he wants to go! Which reminds me of a funny fact: I had a laundry basket blocking one side of the hallway between his bedroom (where he was) and the bathroom (where I was). He WEDGED himself between the basket and the wall, instead of going around it... yelling the whole way. I laughed at his simple-minded determination!!
One of Scott's favorite things to do lately is type! He bangs on the keyboard, laughing the whole time, usually telling daddy a jarbled story about his day. It is so cute! Anything that is not a toy is Sctt's favorite toy! He has been carrying around a whistly halloween straw, using it as a drumstick, for the past few weeks. Forget the rattles and animals when there are straws and wisks!!!
Scott is an absolute joy in our lives, and just writing this post has made me less grumpy about my present lack of sleep and excess of ticked off baby! Poor little snotty thing is my cute loveable baby underneath!!! Love him!

Old Dude's Rule!

This is a tribute to the love of my life! It is his birthday today!! I am so happy to celebrate this day because I am so glad that he was born! My life is so blessed and happy thanks to him! He is a funny, thoughtful, hard working, down-right loveable guy! Here's a picture of him when he was only a few months old, cute as a button and looking quite a bit like the little dude I have crawling around my house these days!
Dude's siter Tiffany was in town for the weekend, and she made up a delicious dessert so that we could celebrate on Sunday. Dude opened all of the cards he had received up to that point and got a "fat loot".
I am in the Young Women's program and have an event tonight, so we started the celebrating last night. I made Dude one of his favorite dinners, and we had key lime pie with 26 candles in it for dessert. I had to buy two candle packs, now THAT is old!!!
Scott loved helping open the cards and gifts... that is, he loved chewing on the envelopes once the cards were opened. I swear, holidays with this kid are gonna be easy as pie as long as tags, paper, and utincels remain his toys of choice!

Today we went to sushi for lunch, and continued the celebrating! As many days with parties in them as we can get, for sure!! We will keep going and going as long as I can think of celebrations that need to happen! To Dude: Thanks for being such a great husband, best friend, daddy to Scott and all around good guy (not to mention devilishly handsome!!!) ::SMOOCH:: Love ya!!

"My given name is Benjamin Buford Blue, but people call me Bubba"

FINALLY!! Bubba came to visit! He arrived Tuesday evening, and when he came in, Scott was in my arms and just gave Bubba the stare down. My dad is a very "stand back and let the kid do his thing" kind of guy, and sure enough his hard to get attitude worked, and within minutes, Scott was reaching for Bubba, wanting to be held by him. And who wouldnt, when Bubba flies you around a parking lot like an airplane, lets you grab his face off, eats your hands, and turns you on your head!! Sounds like fun to me, a human rollercoaster, just Scott's size!!

We loved having my dad around! He is such a fungi (get it, fun guy?? haha)! He arrived prepared to help Dude build a new desk for his office, and they spent their evenings in Home Depot (3 trips to Home Depot for one desk... I know, crazy!) and in the driveway bolting and planning and getting it all worked out. I will post pictures of the desk as soon as we get the top bolted on, the frame and top are currently sitting seperate of each other in the garage, awaiting an additional Home Depot trip for some more bolts!
Bubba was able to see Scott in his element, and he and I spent a lot of time watching and laughing at the silly things that Scott does when left to his own! He talks to himself, climbs up everything, and if youre watching, every now and then looks at you and flashes a huge grin and a chuckle! This morning, as we were getting ready for the day, Scott was lying down having his bottle, and decided he wanted to be sitting up, so he did. Kept the bottle in his mouth with one hand, grabbed his blankie with the other and watched the TV, Bubba, and anything there was that he could see better from this new vantage point!
Bubba introduced Scott and I to Culver's today, before he left town. It is a burger/frozen custard joint from back east that has some locations in AZ. It was nummy, and I know when I take Dude back there, it will become one of his favorites. Scott is now officially addicted to chocolate custard (i know, Im a terrible mother... whatev!) and will be on a sugar high for the next 2 weeks!

Upon arriving home from lunch, my dad having gone the opposite way to the airport, I discovered that he had removed 3 dying or dead bushes that are constantly in my way when Im getting in and out of my car! What a good daddy, taking care of me like that! If anyone wants to argue this next point, I have enough evidence for a very long debate: my dad is the BEST dad anyone could ask for!!! Thanks for coming to visit, Bubba, we love you!!

Yelling Wars

I had Scott on my lap today, and he started yelling. These yells, I swear, are his language! He does this when he wants food, when hes tired, when he wants down from my lap, etc etc. Well, this time I yelled back, and Scott sure got a kick out of it! He would yell, and I would yell back: after a few times he would laugh, and I would laugh. Then, he would suddenly go back to straightfaced yelling... i loved it!

All American

Dude, Scott and I exercised our right as Americans today and cast our ballots! Dude left work early so that we could go stand in line, which... wasnt there! We arrived at our designated voting location to find that there was no line, but a group of volunteers waiting for SOMEONE to show up. I am giving other  citizens the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they were all more on top of it than me and had already voted! The LAST thing Scott wanted to do while Dude and I voted (they wouldnt let him have a ballot... who cares if he cant write, I could have filled it out for him! ;) ) was sit still, so he fussed and whined and wiggled in his stroller. Its a good thing it wasnt a jam packed venue, cause theres nothing like a screaming 8 month old to distract ya! I had done my research on some of the propositions, but I admit I felt uninformed as I stood in that booth with my paper and marker. I resolve to be much more involved and prepared next time... I dont know the names or character of supreme court judges!!!! I wasnt expecting to need to know and vote on that! Crazy!! It was a much larger ballot than I was expecting, and I will definitely do more preparing for the next election!
I am now watching the reports on TV waiting to see what difference my vote made!! I love this country and appreciate my ability to cast my vote and speak my mind, what a great place we live in! God Bless America!!!

Halloween Party Animals

Happy Halloween!!! Scott, along with his mommy and daddy, went to a Halloween party with all of his friends! Scott was a monkey, and of course every monkey needs trees to swing in and jump between, so that became the fate of mom and dad! Scott is not a huge fan of the hat part of this costume, and would pull on the ears and try to get it off! A few weeks ago, I put a piece of wire in each ear to make them stand up instead of floppy (who has ever seen a monkey with floppy ears) but they didnt do their job quite right, and thus we have a floppy eared monkey... but isnt he the cutest!?!

Scott in his trees

Here is the whole gang (minus a tootsie roll, Roman, who showed up later). From Left to Right: Colin the Giraffe, Rylan the Kitty, Scott the Monkey, AJ the golf pro, Anderson the Lion, and Aurora the Pumpkin! Scott and Anderson kept grabbing each other, and at one point in the picture taking, Scott had Anderson's mane, and Anderson had Scott's ear. Rylan LOVED the spots on the giraffe, and AJ and Aurora were happily quiet through the whole thing. The kids are getting to where they love to play together, and actually reach for each other, crawl around together and smile at one another. It is so fun that Scott, Dude and I have such a fun group of people to have fun with!
Scott brought a little baggie of goodies for each of his friends, and did sort of a reverse "trick or treat". Next year, we will get out and around the block, but this year, we were perfectly content inside, playing with our friends, with no candy involved (actually, Im sure if Scott could talk, thats one of the requests he would have made... silly hungry baby)

Scott-O-Lantern

For our family home evening last night, we carved pumpkins!! We are so excited about Halloween, and had tons of fun listening to halloween music, squishing guts between our fingers and coming up with fun ideas for our designs. We called my family in UT on skype and had a virtual FHE together. McKenna and Dad carved a pumpkin there, and we showed each other our art when we were finished... gotta love technology!!
We put a pile of guts on Scott's tray, and stayed close by, in case it went downhill fast, but he had no interest in putting that in his mouth, and wasnt even sure what to do with it in his hands! My parents and sis got to watch him discover it, and he sure was curious about it!!

Since Scott can't very well carve a pumpkin himself, I was his hands, and he was my inspiration... I decided to make a "Scott-O-Lantern", isnt it cute???

Just kidding, I actually did carve a pumpkin! And Scott WAS actually my inspiration... this picture depicts perfectly his feelings for the pumpkin guts, but it also shows (if you look REALLY close) the source of my pumpkin inspiration! Scott grew his two bottom teeth 3 and 2 weeks ago, and I have been TRYING and TRYING to get a picture. As soon as you try to pull his lip down to see them, out comes his tongue! Anyways, I decided to make a jack-o-lantern face with two bottom teeth, to be my little Scotty in pumpkin form! I thought it was a bright idea!! **pats herself on the back**

Dude enjoyed the guts and seeds a lot more than Scott did! He was dancing to Thriller as entertainment for Scott and I, making faces such as THESE, and making it fun for everyone! He was also the camera-man for our webcam as we escorted my family digitally outside to see our lit up pumpkins! Hes the best husband and friend i could ever want and he have too much fun together!! (if thats possible, I think thats like having too much money... not really legit) Dude carved something that only a computer guy could... he carved a winking face made of a semicolon and a close parentheses, like this " ;) " The men and their pumpkins. Scott wanted to eat his... he wasnt interested in the guts, but once that carved pumpkin was nearby, it was all we could do to keep him from chewing on it with those two teeth of his!

We are so excited for all of these first holidays with Scott! Halloween is just the beginning of the best season of the year, and we cant wait to share our love for this time of year with him and see him enjoy himself!

Families are Forever!

When we were in UT, we had family pictures taken, and they turned out great! Amy Harrison, who is in my mom's neighborhood and ward, took them and she is AWESOME! I highly recommend her, you can find her here http://www.amyharrisonphotography.blogspot.com/! My family is so awesome, and I love love LOVE them to pieces!

Mom and Scotty's Day of Fun!

Scott and I had a busy and fun day today! By the time we got home this afternoon, Scott was totally wiped, and he's still napping now! Our day started bright and early, like it only can with a kid ( 6 am ). Breakfast of milk for Scott and cereal for mom was eaten where it should be on a Saturday morning... in front of CARTOONS!! Scott has been feeding himself lately, and I've noticed that he more often stops eating before the milk is gone. I'm beginning to think I was feeding him too much, but since it was there, being held in his mouth... he kept eating without complaint. But now that he does it for himself, he usually starts playing and stops eating about 2/3 of the way through. Maybe he's put himself on a diet????

This afternoon we headed off to the Taste of San Tan event at the outdoor mall in our area. It was a meetup activity with my moms group, and since it was only me and one other mom, I brought Jenna along for the fun! It was San Tan's 1 year anniversary, and they had everything you could want! Tons of samples from all of their restaurants (and I don't mean a bite on a toothpick, I mean close to FULL meals, from every booth!), music being played at different locations throughout the mall by live bands, coupons being handed out like crazy (Im SURE these stores were getting a lot of business, but we just took the free stuff!!)
There were a few people dressed up crazy making balloon animals, and a lady with blue hair and blue suede shoes made Scott a monkey balloon. He thought the sound that it made when he grabbed it was the coolest thing ever, so I couldnt quite get a straight picture, he was too distracted! Scott loved to watch the playpad water fountain in the kids area, and all the kids running through and getting wet. He was amazed by it, and when i stuck his feet in the fountain, he giggled and squirmed like only Scott can! He seemed to love seeing and watching and being outside!

In one area of the mall, they had blocked off a whole section of road where a sidewalk chalk artist was drawing a cactus, pumpkin, sunset, halloween/arizona artwork, and they had chalk and personal sized chalkboard that people were decorating and laying on the sidewalk around the big drawing. Angela and I drew our kids names, and I think they turned out way fun! Side note: I was not expecting to be playing with chalk and eating bbq, and sitting on the curb: khaki pants probably wasnt my brightest idea of the day... they have green chalk flecks and bbq sauce spots on them now!!
I traced Scott's hands on his chalkboard, and he had blue chalk between his fingers. It was not an easy task getting a fat piece of blue chalk between a set of 5 fat fingers, but it was fun. He wanted to grab the board and did a pretty good job of smearing the chalk around by the time we were done with the photos!
From the beginning of our afternoon, I was looking for the face-painting guy! The schedule of events paper that I had SAID he would be there, and I wanted Scott to get a painted face. So before we left, we went looking for him one more time, and FOUND HIM!! I was determined, so we ended up extending our day by about 30 minutes waiting in his line. When I got to the front and asked for a basketball, the guy said "thats not food! I was only doing food items cause this is a food tasting event"... I made him *correction, asked nicely for him to just do the dang basketball! He had to mix the orange, and right as he was finishing the perfect circle, Scott wiggled, and we got a little smudge. Little smudge nothin! As soon as we were done taking there pictures he had drool washing half of it all off!! But it sure was cute while it lasted. Scott's friend Aurora succumbed to the food rule, and switched from a flower to a strawberry...
